A
Palm Sunday Assembly in Lubbock
Due to the of cool conditions on Sunday with an
all-day rain (praise God), we moved the Palm Sunday Celebration indoors to the Lubbock Civic Center Banquet Hall. The food booths
were not available at the Civic Center due to food vender
regulations. Following is an account of the plans for
this event:

Pray Lubbock is encouraging Christians all over the city to
come together following their morning worship on Palm Sunday
and corporately express our passion for our King, the Lord
Jesus Christ. This assembly is based on the theme of
Palm Sunday, the coronation of Jesus as King over Jerusalem
and we would like to add Lubbock to the list of cities who
honor Jesus as King. We will meet at Maxey Park in the
corner closest to Covenant Lakeside Hospital (formerly St.
Mary's Hospital), on Sunday,
April 4th, with food booths ready to serve by 12:30 and
worship beginning at 1:00 p.m. We will conclude by
3:00 p.m. Attendees may come and go as necessary, but
are encouraged to stay for the two hours as there will be
great variety in worship. Dress will range from
"Sunday clothes" to very casual.
Congregations
who have been participating in the Seek God for the City
2004 prayer
initiative will be especially interested in this event.
Palm Sunday is the final day of the 40-day period
beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 25th. This forty-day prayer guide culminates in the
celebration memorialized in Palm Sunday.
This event will capture the victory, and celebration
of that original Palm Sunday crowd. We will have palm
branches available for everyone who wishes to wave palms as we
worship. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs
if they prefer to be seated during worship.
Food booths will be prepared to serve food by
12:30. Alliance Church and Ministerios Nueva Vida are each providing food
service. The following food items will be available:
Nachos, barbeque wraps, Frito pies, soft drinks bottled water,
coffee and hot chocolate. Food will be available throughout the
event. There are picnic tables and a large play land
in the area so
families are encouraged to come together and purchase something from the
booths or you may bring food from home or a drive-thru..
Worship will feature three worship teams from three culturally
different backgrounds who will all lead us to the same place
- the feet of Jesus in worship. Christ Community
Church led by Craig Stone will be leading us in worship from 1:00 p.m. and take
us into a period of intercession for our city. The
worship team from Ministerios Nueva Vida, led by James Tobar
will lead us in the
second worship session beginning about 1:40 pm which will
also be followed by intercession for our city. Our
third and final worship set beginning about 2:20 will be
lead by a worship team consisting of worship team leaders from various African-American congregations led by Glenda
Shumate. We will
end with intercession for our city. Click
here to see the songs these worship teams will be using.
Intercession will be in three parts: 1) We will
pray for tremendous impact in our city with regard to the
movie The Passion of the Christ. We have
already completed 12 days of intercession on site at Tinsel
Town and we will continue pray for those who will decide to
see the movie over the Easter weekend. 2) We will be praying
for great results for the Kingdom through all of the special
Holy Week and Easter weekend events. We will pray for
salvations, recommitments and for Jesus to be greatly
honored through all of the services. 3) We will pray for
God's blessing and direction over our city as a whole giving
him praise for the rain we have received and praying for His
destiny for Lubbock to be fulfilled.
Also available at the park will be prayer stations for
personal prayer ministry. Church on the Rock will pray
for "Physical Healing", Vandelia Church of Christ
will pray for "Children and human needs affecting one's
dignity", Lakeridge Methodist Church will be praying
for families, the Daughters of the King prayer group
will pray for "Relationships", City View Christian
Fellowship will pray for sues,
personal crisis situations where freedom is needed, and
Broadway Church of Christ will pray for Men's Issues. These prayer ministry
stations will be located around the perimeter of the worship
area and will be available continually throughout the worship time and at
the conclusion of the event.
