Movie Theater Project Overview
Pastors in our community who previewed Mel Gibson’s movie agreed that it presents a
powerful experience leavening viewers stunned by the
wonder and power of the cross and and the love of our Savior.
It gives new insight into why Paul would say,
“For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus
Christ, and Him crucified. (I Cor. 2:2)
Groups of pastors met with
Steve Doles prior to the release of the movie seeking a unified approach to addressing the
questions and needs that will arise among the moviegoers.
We have discouraged congregations from
“in-your-face, repent-or-burn” assaults, although some
may feel that is an appropriate way to seize the moment.
Rather, we are suggesting that
congregations unite with theater, billboard, and newspaper advertising,
online direction and an onsite prayer and counseling center.
Thirty-eight congregations have united in this
trans-congregational effort. If your congregation would like to be involved in a effort to respond to the questions and
needs that will arise upon the viewing of this movie, you
may click here to
go to an informational page and form through which you can
register online and be part of our full-page newspaper ad
and our web page that is dedicated to point inquirers
to congregations with answers.
