“You are invited to join with other Christian! s across our city in a Palm Sunday experience of contemporary worship in welcoming Jesus into Lubbock as King.  Pray Lubbock is sponsoring this event on Sunday, April 9, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Lubbock Civic Center.  Dress will be casual and the mood will be exuberant praise.  Palm waving and adoration will be in order.  Worship leaders include Daryl Collins, Agape Temple COGIC; Tommy Hood, St. Matthew United Methodist; Bruce Menefee, City View Christian Fellowship; Chris Roberts, Fresh Fire Foursquare; Glenda Shumate, Community Baptist; Dallas Stevens, The Springs Fellowship; Craig Stone, Christ Community Church; and James Tobar, Ministerios Nueva Vida.  Without you the “welcoming committee” won’t be complete, so plan to participate in this afternoon of celebration.  Let’s make Palm Sunday afternoon all about welcoming Christ into our city.”

Jesus' followers were impelled with expectancy  as they bustled around Him with "Hosannas" and palm branches.

Like the crowd on the first Palm Sunday, we, too, have heard of Jesus' ministry: Lazarus raised from the dead, blind men healed, sins forgiven; we, too, come with expectancy of what it would mean to have Jesus as King over our city.

The city of Lubbock is invited to gather on Palm Sunday, April 9 at 3:00p.m. at the Lubbock Civic Center Banquet Room purely for the purpose of proclaiming Jesus as King over our city.

On the original Palm Sunday Jesus said that if the people kept silent the rocks and stones would cry out in praise!  We will give the rocks and stones the day off!

TheseWorship leaders in Lubbock have been preparing for this day of celebration:

Daryl Collins, Agape Temple COGIC

Tommy Hood, St. Matthew United Methodist

Bruce Menefee, City View Christian Fellowship

Chris Roberts, Fresh Fire Foursquare

Glenda Shumate, Community Baptist

Dallas Stevens, The Springs Fellowship

Craig Stone, Christ Community Church

James Tobar, Ministerios Nueva Vida

They will collectively be leading the worship.  In addition, Dary Collins will be bringing his worship team from Agape Temple.  Make this part of your celebration of the season.  You will experience and participate in exuberant contemporary worship including Latino and  Black Gospel flavor.  We will have our own triumphal entry in Lubbock.

The Original "Palm" Sunday:

A Day of Spontaneous Jubilation

For Jesus

Men, women and children came out to see Jesus ride into Jerusalem that day and gave Him His due honor as they declared "Hosanna" and "Blessed is the King Who comes in the name of the Lord!"  On this day in history, Jesus embraced the praises of the people - previously He had squelched such public displays with His words, "Tell no man." and "My time has not yet come."  Not so this day!  This was truly the victory march of a Servant-King.  And a whole city recognized Who Jesus was.

Lubbock's Triumphal Entry Celebration is designed to give our city an opportunity to come together for the purpose of corporately declaring Jesus is King over our city.  One person or one congregation can't speak on behalf of the whole city, so we are inviting representatives of the whole city to come out and combine our praise.

Worship leaders spanning the denominational and cultural diversity of our city will be leading worship with all of the color those backgrounds offer.  It truly will be a voice of praise representative of our city, but the worship leaders can't speak for you.  This was the day that Jesus said, if the people were silent the rocks and stones would cry out!  Let's give the rocks and stones the day off!

Nehemiah 12:43 describes a similar day in Jerusalem, "And on that day they offered great sacrifices and rejoiced because God had given them great joy, even the women and children rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard from afar." Our purpose and prayer is that the joy of Lubbock would also be heard from afar, infused with sincerity and jubilation. Let us fix our attention upon Jesus so that our spontaneous festival of worship becomes loud with holy dignity.

Sheer curiosity, devotion and admiration for Jesus brought that first "Palm Sunday" crowd together; please join us in prayer that the joy of our salvation and our gratitude for what God is doing in our city will impel us to gather as a city for our very own Palm Sunday demonstration of devotion.
