A copy of an email from Steve Hawthorne,

Director of WayMakers:

Dear friends,

I rarely send email messages. This one has two things in it: a call and a reminder. First the call. I think God is calling many of us to seek Him earnestly in these days. In recent years I have been involved in numerous seasons of prayer. But I want you to know that I sense God’s call, not so much to pray about the impending disasters and momentous decisions that we are facing all over the world. I sense God calling us to seek His face in order to somehow pursue His purpose.

Recently we’ve heard several different calls to a season of fasting and praying. Some of them have already begun at the first of the year. I’m going to be using scriptures and prayers of Seek God For The City 2008 to focus my praying. But I don’t think any particular set of dates really matters. I think what matters most is that we remain resolute to seek the face and the fellowship of the living Son of God. Now is His hour. Let’s let go of the clutter and rubbish and lay hold of the amazing things that He’s bringing forth.

And this brings up the reminder: If you do want to use Seek God for the City, it begins very early this year—on February 6. If you’d like to use this resource with others in your church or community, please contact us right away. We’ve never seen so many thousand copies sell so early. We’re taking measures to try to avoid running out, but the main point is that it’s time to order now. If you would like to distribute copies on January 27 or February 3, don’t delay. Contact our office soon.

Thanks for doing whatever it takes to seek the glory of God in the face of Christ. Somehow the days seem to be supercharged with momentous urgency. The explosive noise of elections and terrorism is more than enough to distract us from the radiant, steady hope of Christ becoming followed in every circle and setting of the earth. I don’t think people can see any further ahead than they have prayed. Now is the time to seek His face, in order to pray far-reaching, long-unfolding prayers of biblical hope.

Yours in hope of Christ’s glory,

Steve Hawthorne
