New Volunteer Registration Efforts for Hurricane Assistance Suspended
The registration of new volunteers to help with the preparation of potential evacuees from the Texas coast has been suspended until further notice. The City would like to thank all the volunteers who signed up on Sunday and Monday, and would like to let them know their help will be needed. Those volunteers will be contacted in the near future with more details.
"We are grateful to those who have volunteered their time and energy to help with the preparations," said Kevin Overstreet, emergency operations director for the City of Lubbock. "The citizens of Lubbock have always shown a willingness to help those in need and we truly appreciate their efforts."
Over the weekend, volunteers helped prepare the City Bank Coliseum and the Civic Center to house up to 1,000 potential evacuees from the Texas coast in advance of Hurricane Dean.
