On Monday, January 24, 2005, the Lubbock County
Commissioners Court signed a proclamation encouraging the
county to participate in this day of pray and fasting for
God's blessings on the South Plains.
On Thursday, January 27, 2005, the Mayor Marc McDougal
and the Lubbock City Council made a similar proclamation
declaring thanks to God for the blessings of last year and
declaring utter dependence upon God for the future of our
community.
On Friday, January 28, 2005 the City Council, County
Judge, Tom Head, and Pray Lubbock held a press conference at
the South Plains Cotton Compress encouraging the community
to distinguish Sunday, January 30, as a day of prayer and
fasting for God's blessings on our community.
As we pray for God's blessing on our community, we are
aware that God blesses us in order that we might be the
blessing to others that He empowers us to be. See
Genesis 12:2. We are asking God to bless our
community, state and nation so that we might be a blessing
to those around us and around the world.
Here are some suggestions for prayer:
Thanks to God for the answer to prayer for rain in
2004. Last year was the second wettest year on record
- remarkable considering 2003 was the second driest year on
record!
Thanks to God for the record-setting cotton harvest for
2004. Predictions indicate that production will
accumulate to set not only local, but world records for
production!
Pray for the welfare of our community as described by
Jeremiah 29:7.
Pray for the City-Councils decisions regarding water availability
in our future.
Pray for our law enforcement officers and their
protection. Pray for a decline in crime, murder and
untimely death.
